Familiar faces from 1987 moving into 1988 are #3901 Mighty Dump, #3905 Mighty Mixer, #3907 Mighty Dozer, #3920 Mighty Loader, #3926 Mighty Crane and #3931 Mighty Backhoe. New for 1988 were models #3977 Mighty Hook and Ladder Fire Truck, #3909 Mighty Tow Truck, #4010 Mighty Power Kit, #4902 Motorized Mighty Dump and #4909 Motorized Tow Truck. Models deleted in 1988 were #4002 Loadmaster, #5202 Mighty Car Carrier and #3966 Mighty Adventure Buggy.
CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR: All models carried over from 1987 remain unchanged.
OBSERVATION: The "lights" on the Mighty Tow truck come off without much effort and are almost always missing on trucks that are for sale or up for bid at auction. They are not available in reproduction.

Model #4010 Mighty Tonka Power Kit, was an attempt at best, to bring a sand box toy to its knees. The Power Kit consisted of a power pack requiring four "C" cells (not included), a slip on traction tread for each rear tire, a towing accessory and a hard hat. The power pack fits Tonka trucks made since 1983 AND the truck must have the 054782 steel chassis like the Mighty Dump, Mighty Tow Truck and Mighty Mixer. In the late 1990's, when the steel chassis was replaced with plastic, the power pack was relegated to boat anchor status. A power packed Mighty worked best on carpet or tile. Dirt and sand tended to clog things up. And forget about playing in water puddles.
The Mighty Power Kit could be purchased separately or was included with specially packaged Mighty Dumps and Mighty Tow Trucks. |
