Model #900 Mighty Tonka Dump as introduced for the first time at Toy Fair in New York City in March 1964. The 1964 Tonka dealer catalog assigns the Mighty Dump to Tonka's Regular series along side model #840 Car Carrier and the elusive model #640 Ramp Hoist. The Mighty Dump would find a new home in 1965 along with two siblings. Even with the rubber tires drilled partially through from the backside to lessen unit weight, the toy still tips the scales at about 11 pounds.

A word or two about Tonka paint. But first, a very brief Tonka paint history lesson. Tonka had a single paint supplier through 1969. DuPont was the supplier of choice. In fact, the DuPont name is seen in most all Tonka dealer catalogs. One supplier would almost insure consistencies in color from lot to lot. The single supplier concept changed in the very early 1970's when Tonka added Dexter-Midland, Glidden and Valspar as paint suppliers. Color inconsistencies were unfortunately a thing of the past. Moving ahead.
Over the years, some of the same questions continue to be asked about the paint used on Mighty Tonka trucks. Does it contain lead? Is it toxic. Very good questions. Tonka literature states that the paint Tonka used is non toxic. We all know that information on the internet is truthful and accurate. If you have doubts (and you should), please contact Hasbro, Tonka's parent these days, at www.hasbro.com and ask your question via the CONSUMER CARE link. They will respond.
Another popular question has to do with paint codes or paint colors. Many a Dad or Grand Pa want to clean up their favorite Tonka before passing it along to the next generation. Tonka's paint codes have not been found as of mid 2016. However, there are some over the counter (OTC) paint colors that have proven themselves to restorers with results that are near dead on. For your Mighty Dump, Plasti-Kote #376 Brite Yellow and Rust-oleum #7747 Sunburst Yellow are near perfect matches. If you have a lime green (often called Euclid green) Mighty Shovel or Bottom Dump, Rust-oleum #268399 Gloss Key Lime, Ultra Cover 2X, is a very good choice with restorers. Rust-oleum #H-27 Euclid Green and PPG/Ditzler #45771 HIlite Green appear to be very good color matches too. (PPG/Ditzler is not available OTC) Here in the states, Lowes and/or Home Depot carry Plasti-Kote and/or Rust-oleum. Don't forget Amazon and eBay as possible resources.
