Tonka was 20 years old in 1966, having incorporated in September 1946. Tonka's 1966 product line consisted of 61 toys and sets in all three series (Mini Tonka, Regular Tonka and Mighty Tonka). Tonka advertising played up the safety aspects of all toys manufactured in 1966. Trucks used the finest materials available. including the use of heavy gauge steel. Edges were rolled for safety. Surfaces were protected by two coats of tough non-toxic truck paint. The TX-500, guaranteed for the life of the toy, tire was used across the Tonka Toys Gas Turbine product line.
1966 Tonka Turbine models continuing from 1965 were the red #620 Cement Mixer, #840 Car Carrier, #926 Pumper, #998 Aerial Ladder and #2175 Construction Set. Tonka added model #910 Bottom Dump and #2180 Road Builders Set to the Gas Turbine (Regular) lineup in 1966. Tonka deleted the yellow Cement Mixer that had been part of the #2175 Construction Set.
CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR: The load on #840 Car Carrier changed from one blue Falcon sedan, one white Falcon sedan and one red Ranchero in 1965 to one white Falcon sedan, one red Ranchero and one blue Ranchero in 1966.
